What is Royal Academy Of Arts?

London's famous Royal Academy of Arts is home to an impressive collection of both classical and contemporary art. Even before you enter the building, you can feel its historic importance. The architecture is definitely worth a good look! With its prominent position in Central London, the Academy has hosted the world's largest annual open submission contemporary art show for well over 240 years now. Stroll around the Main Galleries, where the show is held, and see works of both emerging and established artists. Whether you enjoy painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, architecture, or film (or all of them), you're bound to see something you like. Of course there's also a variety of temporary exhibitions, showcasing a genre, medium or time period. It's okay if you don't 'get it,' because you can walk away from a work with whatever you want, and because you can join a talk with an expert or a guided tour. When you are left with a lot of food for thought, you can eat it with some light snacks, a sandwich, pastries, or soft drinks at the contemporary Gallery Café or the beautiful Courtyard Café. Don't forget to visit the shop for a postcard, a mug, or even comprehensive art books!
